Seamless Donations 5.0 has been released to the WordPress.org plugin archive. The official release version is 5.0.3. Versions 5.0.0, 5.0.1, and 5.0.2 were not released to the archive and were used for testing.

Disable add-ons first

My recommendation — and this pertains primarily to those running Seamless Donations add-ons like Giving Level Manager, Basic Widget Pack, Thank You Enhanced, or Delete Monster, is to first disable any add-ons.

Add-ons that worked with pre-5.0 versions of Seamless Donations are completely incompatible with the 5.0 add-ons. I essentially had to rewrite all four add-ons pretty much from the ground up. So it’s best if you disable those add-ons before installing Seamless Donations 5.0.

Updating the Seamless Donations core

Updating the Seamless Donations plugin should be a matter of simply letting WordPress send you an update notice on your Plugins dashboard, and telling it to update.

Should.

If that doesn’t work, go ahead and disable the Seamless Donations 4.0.x plugin you’re currently running (be sure to disable any add-ons first). Then, it is safe to delete the seamless-donations folder in your WordPress install’s plugins folder. No data will be lost.

Then go ahead and install Seamless Donations 5.0. It’s now in the WordPress repository, so all you’ll need to do is go to your Plugins dashboard, select Add New, search for Seamless Donations, and install.

Once installed, you can activate Seamless Donations 5.0.

Updating the add-ons

All the add-ons have been bumped from 1.0.x to 2.0.x. Basically, the 1.0.x add-ons are compatible with Seamless Donations 4.0.x, and the 2.0.x add-ons are compatible with Seamless Donations 5.0.x. I know it’s confusing, but that’s version numbers for you.

The four add-ons should update automatically, but because this is such a massive update, it’s possible there will be snags. If you previously disabled your add-ons, go ahead and delete their folders, either using the Delete option in the Plugins dashboard or by using your file manager.

No settings will be lost.

Next, download your add-ons from this site. Go to your account page, choose View Details and Downloads from your purchase, and scroll down to the bottom of the screen. You’ll see a link for the new 2.0 add-ons. Download those (you’ll save zip files to your computer). Then go into the WordPress Plugin dashboard, select Add New, and upload the files.

Once installed, you can go ahead and activate the add-ons.

Good luck and feel free to reach out

I’m hoping this upgrade goes smoothly, but these things are hard to predict. If you run into a snag, feel free to reach out to me by opening a support ticket. I’m going to do my best to be extra responsive during the weeks following issuing this update.
